Five students from Veritas University have travelled to Poland for a full semester on an Erasmus Exchange programme between Veritas University and University of Social and Media Culture, Torun, Poland.
The Erasmus Programme is the European Union’s flagship initiative enabling students and staff to study, train, or work abroad in another country. It covers study periods between 2–12 months.
Participants receive grants to cover travel and living expenses and gain international experience.
The Students, two each from Computer Science and Software Engineering Departments as well as one from Mass Communication Department left Abuja on Wednesday for Warsaw, the Polish Capital from where they will connect Torun where the University is located.
In a brief Ceremony at the Airport, the Head of the Directorate of Advancement and International Collaboration, Sr Dr Kathleen McGarvey OLA informed the students that as ambassadors of Veritas University and indeed Nigeria, a lot is expected of them.
“On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, I want to once again congratulate you on your selection through a transparent and rigourous process for this exchange programme. We are proud of you and we have no doubt that you will discharge yourselves creditably.
“You are pioneers in this exchange programme between Veritas University, Abuja, Nigeria and University of Social and Media Culture, Torun, Poland. The expectations from you are high. How you are able to conduct yourselves and meet up with the academic requirements will go a long way in ensuring that the programme is sustained and other students benefit subsequently. You have an opportunity to make yourselves, your parents, your University and your country proud” she told the students.
The students are made up of four female students from the departments of Software Engineering, Computer Science and Mass Communication while the only male students on the team is from the Department of Computer Science.
