Army reassures residents of Taraba, Adamawa, others of safety

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Jos, Eyitayo Oyinlola has reassured residents of Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Plateau States of their safety and security. Oyinlola, who also commands Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), made this assurance during his visit to troops of the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo on Friday.

While addressing officers and journalists, the GOC emphasized that the Army would not rely solely on a kinetic (force-based) approach but would also engage in dialogue and community engagement to maintain peace.
He said, “Security has generally improved across the Division, but one of the major issues remains communal clashes and land disputes. ”

“For example, in Taraba, land has significant commercial value, leading to conflicts.

“We are addressing this by intensifying communal and stakeholder engagements, bringing all parties together to find lasting solutions.”

He also urged troops to remain disciplined and professional in carrying out their duties.

During a courtesy visit to Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, and Oyinlola praised the harmonious collaboration between the Army, other security agencies, and the state government in addressing security challenges.
He pledged the Army’s continued support in neutralizing threats and ensuring peace in the state.

Governor Kefas, who revealed that Oyinlola was his course mate during his time in the Army, expressed appreciation for the GOC’s service and dedication to national security.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with the military and other security agencies to sustain peace in Taraba State.
