An aspirant for the Benue State governorship election in 2027, Sebastian Hon, has approved the appointment of Jerry Aondo as acting director of the legal team of his “Benue Rescue and Rebuild Mission” gubernatorial campaign.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by Ngutor Anyam, Chairman of the campaign organisation.

According to the statement, Aondo is a Nigerian human rights activist and seasoned lawyer who was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on October 1, 2024, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Anyam said the appointment of Aondo is expected to strengthen the campaign in areas of advisory services, inter-agency advocacy and litigation, particularly where opponents deliberately infringe on the rights of the project.

He added that Aondo is also expected to source and staff the directorate with other competent legal luminaries to support the campaign.

The statement further noted that Hon, who is also a SAN, advised members of the steering committee to focus on the Benue Rescue and Rebuild Mission and avoid engaging in frivolous issues that could distract the campaign. He also commended the committee and the media team for what he described as “the good work they have done so far.”
