Court Convicts Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Contempt

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday  found Senator Natasha Akpoti -Uduaghan representing Kogi Central Constituency in the National Assembly, guilty of contempt for posting a satirical post on her Facebook page in violation of the ruling of court barring all parties from engaging on social media.

Delivering  judgment in a contempt application  filed by the president of the senate, Godswill Akpabio challenging Senator Natasha’s post on social media, Justice Nyako held that after reviewing the post and the application before her instituted by the third respondent, she was satisfied that it was linked to the suspension matter before the court and therefore found the plaintiff guilty of contempt.

The judge ordered Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to pay the sum of Five Million Naira as fine and Publish a letter of Apology in two national dailies and on her Facebook page within seven days.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel had earlier argued that the post was not connected to the court’s order concerning her suspension, but rather referred to a separate issue involving sexual harassment allegations against the third respondent (Akpabio).
