Food Security: Minister Lauds Nasarawa State’s Agricultural Drive

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, has lauded the Nasarawa State Government for its efforts in promoting rice production and ensuring food security in the country.

He gave the commendation during the official unveiling of the state-owned rice named ‘Nasarawa Agro-Commodity Company (NASACCO) Rice’; produced and bagged by the government in Awe and Obi Local Government Areas of the State.

The Minister who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, Ibrahim Alkali noted that the achievement speaks to a leadership that understands the importance of deliberate agricultural investment and development.

“Nasarawa state is laying a firm foundation for sustainable growth, job creation, and economic resilience. Today, Nasarawa state is clearly facing forward.

“These initiatives are the product of focused leadership and disciplined reform under Governor Abdullahi Sule.

“In recent times, Nasarawa State has attracted and launched agricultural and industrial investments valued at over $88 million expanded commercial farming activities, and successfully cultivated and harvested over 8,000 hectares state-owned rice farms.

“These achievements demonstrate what is possible when vision is matched with execution and accountability.

“In addition, the commissioning of the one-megawatt solar plant to power the State Secretariat represents a forward, reliable and sustainable power for government offices, enhances productivity, reduces operational cost, and ensures continuity in public service delivery. It reflects a commitment to modern, responsive, and environmentally responsible administration, “he said.

The Minister also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for building the Nasarawa State Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA) One-Stop Investment Centre and Multi-Door Courthouse in Lafia, saying it will boost investment opportunities in the state.

He noted that the commissioning of the one-megawatt solar plant to power the State Secretariat represents a forward-looking investment in governance efficiency and environmentally responsible administration.

The Minister highlighted Nasarawa State’s achievements in agriculture, including: attracting and launching agricultural and industrial investments valued at over $88 million, expanding commercial farming activities as well as successfully cultivating and harvesting over 8,000 hectares of state-owned rice farms.

On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed his gratitude to the Minister and noted that the NASACCO Rice brand will simplify investment processes and strengthen agricultural value addition in the state.

He emphasized that the agricultural initiative aligns with the National Agricultural Policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which emphasizes food security, private sector participation, value addition, and inclusive growth.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to Silvex International for partnering with the state government to ensure the successful production and sale of the rice at an affordable price.

He urged citizens to take advantage of the 10% discount offered on the rice and patronize them.
