The Kogi State Police Command has banned all rallies in the state, especially in Okene where the senator Representing Kogi Central , Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had planned a home coming.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), for Kogi state, the cancellation was necessitated by reports of security threats.
The ban on the rally in Okene by the police is coming on the heels of a similar action by the state government which also banned the use of convoy in the state.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had planned a home coming for today, Tuesday, April 1.
According to the Kogi state PPRO, intelligence revealed that some hoodlums plan to hijack the process and cause disturbance of peace in the State.
He said the command cannot afford to jeopardise the existing peace in the state, and therefore advises the organisers to cancel the event to avoid any breakdown of law and order.
“In view of the security threat received on the planned rally, the Kogi State Police Command is therefore advising the organisers to cancel the event so as to avoid any breakdown of law and order in the State. As the Command will not hesitate to apply the full wrath of law on any one who causes disturbance of peace and order in the State,” the statement stated.
