The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday stormed the state Assembly Complex with security operatives in what is bound to add more controversy to the dramatic impeachment of the long-serving speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly.
The former speaker’s return came on the heels of the withdrawal of the security details of Mojisola Meranda, who took over from him as the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
According to reports, Obasa went to the Assembly complex with more than 11 Police officers and headed straight to the Speaker’s Office amidst reports of the withdrawal of the new speaker’s security operatives.
A source close to Obasa’s camp confirmed to Punch Newspaper that his security aides were reinstated Thursday morning.
“They have restored all Obasa’s security aides as of this morning” the source disclosed.
The restoration of Obasa’s security personnel comes just hours after all police escorts assigned to Speaker Meranda and those securing the legislative complex were withdrawn, sparking serious safety concerns.
Meranda’s Special Adviser on Information, Victor Ganzallo, confirming the withdrawal of her security details expressed deep concern, warning that the decision leaves the Speaker and the Assembly complex exposed to potential threats.
“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own” Ganzallo stated.
Since his impeachment on the 13th January, 2025, Hon. Obasa has remained defiant, saying that he remained the authentic speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly.
