STAMSAA swears in new executives

The St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary Alumni Association (STAMSAA) has inaugurated its new executives to serve for a four-year term.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, January 30th, during the association’s 39th anniversary celebration.

The newly inaugurated officials include; Rev Fr Thomas Omiunu (President), Prof Paul Haaga (Vice President), Rev Fr Daniel Ashiko(Secretary) and Rev Fr Emmanuel Ajegena (Assistant Secretary).

Others are ; Mr Peter Ushingio (Financial Secretary) , Fr Fredrick Byat (Public Relations Officer), Rev Fr Bernard Achaku ( Provost I) and Mr James Ekele (Provost II)

In an interview with our correspondent , the newly elected president, Fr. Thomas Omiunu, promised to strengthen the association by creating a more vibrant network that connects members worldwide.

Omiunu, a priest of Abuja Archdiocese, said the STAMSAA Alumni under his leadership will embark on programmes that impact positively on society.

He outlined the significance of St. Thomas Aquinas Feast day/Alumni day celebration, noting that it brings former students together, helping them stay connected with their alma mater and other alumni.

The president expressed satisfaction with the turnout at this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), attributing the growth to the association’s expanding chapters across the globe.

He extended gratitude to all alumni, formators, men of goodwill, and seminarians who made the alumni day a success.

Speaking on next year’s celebration, the priest promised a bigger and better event which would mark the association’s 40th anniversary.

“We will invite more people, including Governor Hyacinth Alia, who had a deep affinity with the school,” he said.

Omiunu acknowledged challenges facing the school, including hostel accommodation and the absence of an auditorium, assuring that these issues would be addressed during the 40th-anniversary celebration.

This year’s alumni day celebration featured a Eucharistic celebration, presentation of awards, a novelty match, and a gala night.

One of the awardees, Prof. Paul Haaga, a lecturer at the Federal University of Lafia, received the Alumnus Meritorious Award for his achievements and impact on society.

He thanked God and the association for the honor and promised to do more.

STAMSAA also honored Mr. Thaddeus Orgah, a non-teaching staff member, for his remarkable 39 years of dedicated service to the institution.
