President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja on Thursday for a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga in a statement said In Japan, the President will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD9 will focus on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business environment, strengthening institutions, and fostering private investment and innovation.
“It will also address building a resilient and sustainable African society that promotes human security, peace, and stability.
While in Yokohama, President Tinubu will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage with chief executives of leading Japanese firms investing in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Government of Japan and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is a triennial conference alternating between Japan and Africa.
The last edition was held in Tunisia in August 2022. The forum provides a high-level platform for dialogue between African leaders and global development partners.
Following the conclusion of TICAD9, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia, capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In Brazil, the Nigerian leader will hold bilateral talks with his host, attend a Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, and witness the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding aimed at deepening economic, trade, and technical cooperation.
The President will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials who will engage their counterparts in both countries to strengthen strategic partnerships.
