Gov. Alia’s Director General Resigns

The Director General, Plenipotentiary and Liaison  Affairs to the governor of Benue, Dr Jimmy Ajim has resigned his appointment, citing “Personal reasons” for his decision.

In a letter addressed to the governor of Benue state, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, Dr Ajim who, before his appointment served at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in different capacities, thanked the governor for the opportunity given to him to serve.

“Serving the Benue state government under your leadership has been a profound privilege, and I remain grateful for the opportunity extended to me” he said in the letter which was dated 30th July 2026.

While thanking staff and colleagues that he worked with, Dr Ajim said his resignation takes effect from 10th August, 2026 adding that he is ‘willing to support a smooth handover of my responsibilities before my exit date”

Although the Director General said his resignation was for personal reasons, it is seen as part of the on going hemorrhage of personnel in the Alia administration as a result of the Political Supremacy between the priest governor and the secretary to the government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

It is Suspected that Dr Jimmy Ajim may have pitched his tent with the Senator George Akume Camp of the All Progressive Congress.

Before his appointment into Rev. Fr Alia’s government, Dr Ajim served five successive Ministers of Petroleum as Chief of Protocol before rising to Senior Manager, Protocol and International Liaison. He was NNPC’s Representative in the London Office from 2014-2019 as well as Liaison Officer to the National Assembly among others.
