The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has convened a Special National Prayer for Nigeria on September 30 in Abuja, with Muslims across the country expected to seek divine intervention for peace, security, good governance and the progress of the nation.

The prayer being convened under the leadership of the President-General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will hold from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.

According to a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh on Tuesday, the programme is intended to provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.

The prayer will precede the NSCIA General Assembly scheduled for October 1 at the same venue.

The General Assembly, which begins at 10:00 a.m., is the highest decision-making organ of the Council and brings together its principal leadership, Muslim public office holders and representatives of Islamic organisations and State Councils for Islamic Affairs across the country.

The Assembly is headed by Sultan Abubakar and includes the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.

Other participants are expected to include Muslim governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the FCT.

The General Assembly also includes members of the General Purpose Committee and Expanded General Purpose Committee, representatives of Islamic organisations and prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria.

The Council said the Assembly would provide a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the NSCIA, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.

It urged invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in the two-day programme.

The NSCIA also called on Muslims nationwide to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the stability and progress of the country.
