2025 UTME: Over 1.5m candidates score below 200

…as JAMB investigates 2,157 candidates for alleged malpractice

Out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), over 1.5 million scored less than 200, data released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has indicated.

The statistical analysis, which was released on Monday in JAMB’s official channels ahead of the official pronouncement of results, indicates that only 420,415 candidates scored above 200 in the 2025 edition of the UTME, out of a total achievable score of 400. This represents just over 21 percent of the total figure.

While 4,756 candidates scored above 320, up to 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319.

JAMB noted that “40,247 underage candidates were permitted to demonstrate their exceptional abilities.

“However, only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) achieved scores that meet the threshold for exceptional ability as defined for the UTME, with their performance in the subsequent three stages still pending.”

The statistics further revealed that fewer than 1 per cent of candidates scored above 300.

JAMB also revealed that 71,701 registered candidates were absent from the examination.

In addition, while 97 candidates were found to have committed various infractions, 2,157 candidates are currently under investigation for suspected malpractice.

The board said results for candidates with biometric issues were being reviewed, and those cleared would be rescheduled for another test. It added that results for blind candidates and others under the JEOG category are still undergoing processing.

The Board added that a press briefing to announce how candidates could access their results was expected later this week.
