The Lawmakers also directed the Acting Chairman, BIRS and the Accountant General to provide the details and exact internally generated revenue derived from mining in the State.
This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Member representing Otukpo-Akpa State Constituency, Kennedy Angbo, informing the House that the excessive and illegal mining activities carried out in the State were not commensurate with the revenue being generated and remitted to the State Government.
Angbo further noted that the state was losing substantial revenue that could have been utilised for development, adding that if not stopped, Benue would suffer significant losses in revenue, and face environmental degradation and health hazards.
Member representing Ogbadibo State Constituency, Samuel Agada who seconded the motion, highlighted the apparent disregard for environmental laws and standards, and urged the House to summon relevant authorities to explain the mining activities in the State and the measures in place to ensure the state benefits from the activities.
