At an extended stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, political leaders, party faithful, and community influencers across Ogun State met to deliberate on the future of the state and the strategic positioning of key actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the heart of the discussions was the position of Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, fondly known as Triple A, whose political trajectory and influence continues to resonate strongly across the state. In a resounding show of confidence, stakeholders unanimously urged him to declare for the Ogun West Senatorial seat, describing the move as both strategic and timely.
Hon. Akinlade, who represented Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in the 8th National Assembly (2015–2019), remains one of the most formidable grassroots politicians in Ogun State. His performance in the 2019 governorship election, where he secured an impressive 222,153 votes behind the incumbent who pulled 242,670 votes to emerge the winner, further underscored his widespread appeal and political strength.
However, beyond the calls for his senatorial ambition, what stood out most at the meeting was Akinlade’s statesmanlike disposition and unwavering commitment to the collective progress of Ogun State, particularly Ogun West Senatorial District. In his remarks, he emphasized the urgent need for unity among stakeholders from Ogun West, urging them to rise above individual interests and rally behind a credible and widely acceptable candidate capable of delivering the long awaited desire of an Ogun West indigene as Ogun State Governor in 2027.
In a move widely interpreted as selfless and strategic, Akinlade made it clear that his personal political ambition remains secondary to the broader developmental aspirations of Ogun West. He reiterated his openness to returning to the National Assembly if it aligns with the strategic plan of the APC of ensuring that Ogun produces the best possible political leaderships in 2027.
Political observers at the meeting noted that such a position reflects rare political maturity and a deep understanding of the dynamics required to foster inclusivity, stability, and progress. His call for sacrifice, consensus, and strategic alignment among stakeholders was received with widespread commendation.
Described by many as a bridge-builder with a strong grassroots connection, Akinlade continues to command significant support across Ogun State. Stakeholders also highlighted that his experience as a former lawmaker and consistent contender in the last three successive electoral cycles (2015, 2019, and 2023) positions him as a valuable asset in strengthening the party’s electoral prospects.
While consultations are still ongoing at both state and national levels, there is a growing consensus that Akinlade’s eventual decision will be guided not by personal gain, but by what best serves the collective interest of Ogun West and its people.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of 2027, many believe that leaders with such inclusive and development-driven outlook will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the state.
