Alia warns Peter Obi, others not to visit IDP camps in Benue state.

 

 

The Benue state government has warned the presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi from visiting camps for internally Displaced persons in the state, Whitewatersdigest can reveal.

Mr Peter Obi has been visiting victims of herdsmen attack in some states of the federation, the latest being Plateau state where he visited the governor and some of the Victims of the attacks.

It was gathered that an aide of the former presidential candidate of Labour party had contacted the Executive secretary of State Emergency Agency, Sir James, to intimate him of the planned visit of Peter Obi and his team.

According to an insider in the state, “some officials of government told the governor that the former governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom Supported Peter Obi during the last presidential election as such, the governor should not allow the visit. The governor bought their argument and directed his Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula to issue a statement, stopping all “August” visitors from coming to the state”.

Although Tersoo Kulas did not mention peter Obi by name in his statement, it was learnt that Obi was the target.

The statement by the chief press secretary to governor Alia reads:

” Notice Regarding Unscheduled Visit to Benue State.

“The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, wishes to inform the public that he is not expecting any August visitor to the state today.

“He is currently engaged in high-profile meetings with key state actors to discuss critical issues affecting our state.

“Therefore, he strongly advises against any group or high profile individual(s) attempting to enter the state for any kind of visit that may generate political assemblies without prior approval.

“For anyone considering a visit to Benue State without the Governor’s knowledge, it is imperative to reconsider such plans, as the safety and security of individuals in this regard cannot be guaranteed.

“Also the public is to note that all individuals or groups intending to visit IDPs in Benue State must first seek and obtain written permission from Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).

“We urge security agents and the public to take note of this announcement and maintain peace and order in the state.

“Thank you for your understanding”

when contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue state governor, Tersoo Kulas neither denied nor confirmed the story but said “It is beyond Peter Obi. It is because of the security measures we are putting in place to checkmate what is happening in our state. We are not targeting Peter Obi and we are not aware that Peter Obi is coming to Benue state because he has not informed us”.
