FG probes viral video alleging neglect of accident victims at FMC Abuja

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into a recent incident involving staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, denying prompt medical attention to accident victims brought in by a good Samaritan.

A statement signed by Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Medical Director of FMC Abuja Obadiah Gana on Sunday, noted that an investigation was currently underway and its findings would be made public upon conclusion.

The statement partly reads: “We have been made aware of a video circulating online that portrays our hospital in a negative light. In response, the hospital management has initiated a thorough internal investigation to establish the facts.”

The statement noted that a preliminary assessment carried out by the hospital has revealed that “the emergency department had a sufficient stock of medical consumables, including latex gloves.

“Resuscitation equipment and essential medications were adequately available. No shortage of patient transfer tools such as trolleys and wheelchairs was observed.

“Ongoing interviews with staff and relevant stakeholders are being conducted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the incident.”

FMC Abuja emphasized its dedication to transparency and quality healthcare delivery.

“We are committed to sharing the full outcome of the investigation with the public. FMC Abuja operates an open-door policy and maintains several feedback channels, including dedicated phone lines, QR codes, and email contact options prominently displayed across the hospital premises.

“We maintain a medical indigent fund to assist financially disadvantaged patients and have successfully treated and reunited many unconscious patients with their families through our social work team.

“Our facility performs advanced procedures such as open-heart surgery, laser treatments, kidney transplants, and spine surgery—services rarely available in many public hospitals.

“We sincerely apologize for any distress caused and want to reassure the public that we take all feedback seriously. We deeply value the trust placed in us and remain committed to delivering quality care with empathy and compassion. Constructive feedback helps us improve, and we are actively working to enhance our service delivery.”
