Taraba Govt. recovers 222 rustled cows, returns 198 to owners

The Taraba State Government has returned 198 rustled cows to their rightful owners after security operatives successfully intercepted 222 stolen cattle in Gassol Local Government Area.

A joint operation by security agencies and local hunters also led to the recovery of 58 stolen sheep from the cattle rustlers.

Chairman of the Committee on the Recovery of Stolen Cows and State ALGON Chairman, Aminu Jauro, while handing over the recovered cows, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the state.

He stated that a thorough vetting process was conducted to verify ownership claims, ensuring that the animals were returned to their legitimate owners. He added that the remaining 24 cows would be handed over once due diligence was completed.

The State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Yau Ibrahim, praised the government and security agencies for their swift action in recovering the stolen livestock.

He emphasized that such efforts would help safeguard the livelihoods of cattle breeders and strengthen trust between herders and security agencies.

The recovery operation is part of the Taraba State Government’s ongoing efforts to combat cattle rustling and enhance security across rural communities.
