A former Minister of Transportation and gubernatorial aspirant, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has rejected the result of the All Progressive Congress APC gubernatorial election primaries result which declared Kefas Agbu as the winner and has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene and salvage the party’s internal democracy in the State.
In a statement issued in Jalingo and signed by his Senior Aide on Media, Dr. Sam Idiagbonya (anipr), Sambo called for a comprehensive review of the recent state APC gubernatorial primary election.
The APC primary election committee had announced the incumbent Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, as the winner of the party’s gubernatorial ticket, with the committee reporting that Kefas polled 166,357 votes while Sambo emerged as the first runner-up with 4,110 votes.
However, Alhaji Sambo said the election fell significantly short of the democratic ideals the APC purports to uphold.
“Politics may be about power, but even power must respect the process. Today, many loyal APC members in Taraba feel betrayed, humiliated, and politically orphaned. What we perceived during the governorship primary election was an overwhelming political force overpowering internal democracy” he said.
The Sambo campaign cited various alleged irregularities, including voter exclusion and a lack of transparency, warning that if these issues are ignored, they risk permanently damaging the integrity and democratic image of the party in the state.
“This is why we are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the national leadership of the APC, and the party chairman to urgently review the conduct of the Taraba State gubernatorial primaries,” the statement added.
“The APC must rise to its purpose, defend its honor, and remain a model of democratic process.”
