The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned awardees of flare gas sites that their permits could be revoked if they fail to utilise the sites for the purpose for which they were awarded.

The Commission Chief Executive (CCE), NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, disclosed this during a working visit to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo in Abuja, where she presented an update on the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP), which seeks to harness flare gas for commercial and economic purposes.

The CCE stressed the need for awardees under the programme to demonstrate commitment to developing and utilising the flare gas sites allocated to them.

She indicated that failure by beneficiaries to utilise the awarded sites could result in the withdrawal of their permits, underscoring the Commission’s determination to ensure that the NGFCP delivers on its objectives.

The programme is aimed at reducing gas flaring while creating opportunities for investment, employment and increased utilisation of Nigeria’s natural gas resources.

The working visit provided an opportunity for the Commission and the Ministry of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) to review progress under the programme and discuss measures to strengthen its implementation
