The Arewa Youth Assembly has alleged that the recent call for the suspension of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume over allegations of involvement in a corruption scandal, was being championed by the opposition.
A statement signed by the Speaker, Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, on Tuesday in Abuja, described Akume as an honest man who believes in transparency and accountability in service.
Danlami who insisted that Akume was not in any way linked to any case of corruption, bribery or money laundering, added that the SGF was known to only be committed to serving Nigerians with the highest level of dedication and loyalty.
According to him, Akume was undoubtedly a key figure with unwavering commitment to the actualisation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Danlami stated that those behind the false allegations do not have the best interest of the nation at heart, as they alleged that they were planning a conspiracy targeted at distracting the busy SGF from efficiently discharging his duties, as well as to undermine the government of President Tinubu.
He said: We call on the general public to disregard such press conferences as they are fake, full of lies, inciteful, and deliberately circulated to cast aspersion and smear the person and good image of the SGF who is a political threat to the opposition.
“Therefore, we call on President Tinubu to disregard the request of the group calling for the suspension of the SGF, instead, we are calling on the relevant security agencies to order an investigation into the activities of this group as they appear to be fraudulent, faceless, and could be contracted to cause chaos and incite violence.
“Moreover, if the President would suspend every member of his cabinet over a request from some faceless group because of an allegation, then the cabinet would be left empty.”
