One of Taraba state’s renowned philanthropists, Chief David Sabo Kente, has declared that he will serve only a single term if elected Governor of Taraba State in 2027 and hand over power to a candidate from another zone at the expiration of a four-year tenure in 2031.
Chief Kente who made the declaration to a massive crowd of jubilant supporters in Wukari after completing his All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial screening, stated that he entered the race on a rescue mission to save the state from failed promises.
Chief Kente expressed deep concern over what he described as three years of stagnation since 2023, acknowledging that the initial optimism that trailed the last election has failed to meet the yearnings of the people.
“My decision to run is born out of intense pressure from APC stakeholders and leaders of thought across all 16 local government areas who believe Taraba deserves better.”
Kente also emphasized his commitment to the informal zoning arrangement in Taraba.
He pledged that his administration would serve only four years to complete the Southern Zone’s turn and would facilitate a smooth transition to a candidate from either the Northern or Central zone by 2031.
While expressing confidence in winning the APC ticket at the primary election, despite the incumbent Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, also seeking reelection, Chief Kente said the recent attempt by the state governor to divide the ranks of his supporters will be not be effective.
It will be recalled that the state government recently appointed several Special Advisers,, many of whom are known Kente loyalists.
Chief Kente dismissed these appointments as a calculated political ploy intended to buy loyalty and create division within his camp as the primaries approach.
He noted that the move is a sign of desperation. He also encouraged his party faithful and his supporters to “keep your hope alive, come out in your numbers, and let us secure the flag of our party to bring real change to Taraba.”
