The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has endorsed the establishment of State Police across the region.
The Forum called on the National Assembly to expedite the enactment of the legal framework for creating the State Police to enhance security in the region.
At a joint meeting with the Northern States Traditional Rulers Council, the forum resolved to strengthen local initiatives in combating security challenges and set up inter-state platforms to coordinate surveillance on joint borders.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the NSGF, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, it was stated, “We reiterate our support for the creation of State Police and call on the National Assembly to expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework for its takeoff.”
The governors further resolved to work with the Nigerian Governors Forum to increase support to federal security agencies.
The forum also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying, “We commend Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his sustained commitment to addressing the security challenges and infrastructural deficits in Northern Nigeria.”
